Pico Clear: Complete Buyer's Guide

Alma PicoClear is a four-wavelength picosecond Nd:YAG platform combining native 1064 nm and frequency-doubled 532 nm output with 585 nm and 650 nm dye-converter handpieces.

The four-wavelength architecture gives the platform broad multicolor tattoo-removal coverage. The 585 nm and 650 nm converters extend the optical toolkit beyond the native 1064/532 nm wavelengths.

Published pulse duration is 350 ps at 1064 nm and approximately 300 ps at 532, 585 and 650 nm.

These short picosecond pulses are part of the platform's photoacoustic-oriented operating profile. The system also includes a distinctive double-pulse mode in which sequential pulses add a controlled thermal component to the photoacoustic interaction.

The PicoLift fractional optic uses a 7×7 array and provides five selectable treatment-depth options. This gives practitioners an additional fractional delivery pathway alongside the platform's conventional picosecond applications.

The underlying system received FDA 510(k) clearance on September 1, 2015 under Focus Medical as the NaturaLase PiQo4. Alma-branded PicoClear systems were commercially available by 2016.

The same underlying architecture was also marketed through the Lumenis PiQo4 channel, which explains substantial overlap in console design, applicators and specifications across the related names.

Buyers should not assume that an Alma-branded PicoClear console itself represents a separate FDA clearance. The regulatory name and exact cleared indications should be verified for the specific system and configuration being purchased.

PicoClear is a discontinued Alma product. New sales, upgrades and factory-backed support should therefore not be assumed to be available through Alma.

Most U.S. units date from the mid-to-late 2010s. Buyers of used systems should specifically inspect the laser source, cooling system, articulated arm, power supply and measured optical output.

The 585 nm and 650 nm dye wavelengths have substantially lower published maximum pulse energies than the primary 1064/532 nm channels: 90 mJ and 60 mJ respectively, with fixed 2 mm dye tips.

Buyers should confirm that all four wavelength handpieces, PicoLift, homogenizers, software access and training are actually included in the quoted system rather than assuming they are part of every PicoClear package.

No current standard Alma manufacturer warranty was identified for the discontinued PicoClear product.

Used-system coverage is seller-specific and may be limited; the executive summary identifies 30–90 days as a common seller-provided range when coverage is offered.

Before purchasing, buyers should verify in writing the available Focus Medical or qualified independent service path, parts availability, software access, measured output and exact warranty terms for the individual unit.
